There are so many places to go and things to see within easy cycling distance of our centre in Minehead, that we've tried to pick out some routes to help you get started. There are two types of route - the Leisure Routes suitable for families and those who want a more relaxed cycle around the area, and the Off-Road Routes for those who want adventure and a good workout. Within each set of routes there are also degrees of difficulty and terrain that will help you better plan your self-guided tour.
Copies of our maps of these routes are available for the period of your hire, but, if you wish, you can view the maps and read through the routes by clicking the links opposite, or download them as A4 printable quality 30MB pdfs:
Minehead West Leisure & Off-Road Routes
Minehead East Lesisure Route & Minehead South Off-Road Route
We will be adding to these routes over the coming months, and will soon have slideshows illustrating each of the routes.
Each map shows the sites of tourist attractions and places of interest on, or close to, each route; full details of these can be found by going to the On the Way page. The Route commentaries that accompany each map also include the locations of refreshment stops, toilets and public telephones.
Then again, you might simply like to look at a map and choose your own routes. We recommmend, and sell in our shop, Ordnance Survey Explorer OL9 Exmoor, and the Exmoor National Park Exmoor for Off-Road Cyclists map. And it does not have to be a long journey...around here even a slow bike ride can soon take you deep into the valleys, high onto the moors, through quaint historic villages, or along the coast. There is certainly enough scope for more than one adventure! |
